The African Travel Association is an association of North American Travel Agents who take tourists to Africa and are keen to work with small scale tourism businesses in Africa. They are also an industry partner in the “Green Globe” programme of the World Travel Organisation (WTO) and the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA).
Africa Travel Association is an international, non-profit, non-political and educational organisation established in 1975 to promote tourism to the continent of Africa.
The primary objective of the organisation is to PROMOTE the tourism attractions of the continent particularly to the North American market, and EDUCATE all interested travel agents, meeting and conference planners and incentive companies about products and services offered by the tourism industry in AFRICA.
The vision of the Western Cape ATA Chapter is to look at unique ways of marketing small-scale tourism businesses and bringing them into the fold of the mainstream of the tourism industry. This association would work directly with small-scale tourism companies in the Western Cape, to ensure that everybody will benefit from tourists that they bring.
ATA’s annual congresses are held in rotation among selected African destinations, with South Africa having hosted the 2001 congress.
